‘Zombie Deer’ Escaping from Colorado to Nevada

October 8th, 2019

‘Zombie Deer’ is surprisingly similar to what it sounds like; the phrase is referring to chronic wasting disease, a highly contagious disease that affects deer and elk populations and causes lack of fear of humans, lethargy, and emaciation. The disease is not bacterial or viral; instead, it is transmitted by prions similarly to how mad cow disease or Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is spread. These diseases attack brain tissue and are incurable, hence the zombie name. Proposed Voting Law Follows Colorado’s Example

October 2nd, 2019

A new federal law proposition entitled “Next Generation Votes” hopes to follow in Colorado’s footsteps to increase voter turnout of young people, a notoriously underrepresented group in elections. The law would allow 16-year-olds to pre-register to vote while getting their license. A law for this had been passed in 2013 in Colorado. The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office says nearly 156,000 16-and-17-year-olds in Colorado have pre-registered to vote since the law took effect. This in turn has made it so 60% of young people in Colorado voted in last year’s election compared to... Read More

Colorado topped the nation for teen vaping in a survey of more than three dozen states last year. Of the cases of vaping related illnesses... Read More

‘Forest Bathing’ is the Newest Trend in Colorado

September 17th, 2019

The trend does not include actual bathing, luckily, and does not necessarily even need to take place in a forest. Instead, forest bathing is an act of meditation and mindfulness meant to help you connect with nature, others, and yourself. “The point is to slow down and truly tune in your senses to the nature that surrounds you,” certified forest therapy guide Leona Campbell told Denver7. “We make our way though sight, what are the sounds, how does this feel, what are the smells?” she said. “Just a way of bringing ourselves into the present moment in a way we so rarely do.” Forest bathing... Read More
